A high-pressure booster system is a device that increases the pressure of pre-compressed air or other gases. These pressure optimising devices convert a low pressure air stream into a significantly higher pressure. A typical air pressure booster pump can increase the pressure of the air circulating through them to ten times the original value.
Pneumatic intensifiers are used in a variety of industrial applications, including the following.
PET bottle manufacturing
Automated polyethylene terephthalate (PET) manufacturing requires a continuous supply of high pressure gas that is not available from standard compression systems. Pressurised air compressors help to deliver high pressure air to the blow moulding machines that produce PET bottles. Blow moulding technology uses compressed air to press the molten thermoplastic into the mould.
Industrial pressure testing
Pressure testing of pipes, tubes, vessels, piping systems etc. helps to determine their integrity, reliability and tightness before and after commissioning in the field. It is usually carried out during maintenance operations to ensure that essential equipment is functioning properly and in good condition.
The compressed air or nitrogen leak test procedure (also known as pneumatic testing) involves passing compressed air through a vessel to the required pressure range and then 'venting' the gas through a pressure relief valve located on the system under test. A pneumatic booster pump or pneumatic air booster is suitable for this purpose.
Oil and gas production and transport
Pressurised fluids such as carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) and nitrogen can be used for special processes involving the production of hydrocarbons. In the secondary recovery and enhanced oil recovery (EOR) phases of crude oil production, pressurised gas can be used to increase the pressure in the formation to stimulate the well and increase declining production.
Some examples are gas lift and nitrogen injection techniques. In addition, high pressure air or nitrogen can be used to remove impurities and toxic materials from hydrocarbon pipelines. This nitrogen purging for pipeline drying can help during pipeline decommissioning or commissioning.

Our compressors are manufactured to stringent standards to meet some of the world’s toughest demands. With design pressures of up to 10,000 psi, Green Field has met the challenges of compressing light gases, highly explosive gases, and toxic gases. Additionally, HIT compressors have been utilized in applications that require high purity standards to be maintained.
The compressors feature a rugged skid designed for the rigors of transporting a compressor from site to site. The skid is fabricated of heavy steel plate reinforced by structural members. The standard skid comes equipped with forklift slots for ease of movement.
The compressor is a trunk piston style compressor. It is derived from a proven oil field compressor frame that has been modified for the demands of high-pressure compression. The frame is then equipped with air-cooled cylinders, permitting higher compression ratios and better efficiency. The compressor is balanced so that, in most cases, the compressor can be run on a high-density rubber pad, and does not require a special foundation.
Critical shutdowns include a high discharge gas temperature switch, low oil pressure switch, and a high discharge gas pressure switch (final stage).
Additional equipment include an air cooled heat exchanger after each stage of compression (water cooled heat exchangers available as an option), pressure safety valves after each stage of compression, all internal skid piping, personnel guards over rotating components, a separator after each stage of compression, and an automatic condensate drain system.
